Egypt Trip Report
Pastors Bryan Kunz and Tom Bower returned home after a two week trip to Alexandria, Egypt. The first week of the trip was spent at Fairhaven School, a school for persons with disabilities – which several churches in North Central Iowa Presbytery have been supporting. Fairhaven is operated by Sarai Presbyterian Church, one of ten Presbyterian churches in Alexandria. Bryan was the preacher at the Sunday service of Sarai and the response to his ministry was enthusiastic! Bryan and Tom made a day’s side trip to Cairo where they visited the Presbyterian Seminary in Cairo and also the office of the secretary of the national church, Synod of the Nile. They also did a little sight seeing, including the pyramids of Giza!
Bryan returned to the States after the first week while Tom stayed the second week to minister at Schutz American School (a PC(USA) “entity”) and the Alexandria Community Church, an inter-denominational, expatriate church which meets on the campus of Schutz School. Tom and his wife Jean had previously been teachers at Schutz and Tom had also been interim pastor at ACC several times.
